Toni Braxton hospitalized with lupus complications -- again

Toni Braxton is back in the hospital where she's once again being treated for complications from lupus.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, who's currently on tourcanceleded her Oct. 15 show in Cleveland hours before she was set to take the stage.
"Toni Braxton was hospitalized this afternoon in Cleveland due to complications with her Lupus. Unfortunately her show tonight in Cleveland will need to be postponed," she announced on her official Twitter account.
"Lupus needs to be constantly monitored and this minor setback should not affect the rest of her tour," the message continued.
The news comes barely two weeks after she spent time in a Los Angeles hospital being treated for issues related to the autoimmune disease.
On Oct. 3, TMZ reported that Toni, 49, had been hospitalized for four days.
Her boyfriend, rapper Birdman, 47, hopped a jet from New York, where he was on tour, to be by her side, TMZ also reported.
Toni publicly revealed her lupus diagnosis in 2010.
In 2012, she made headlines after issues with her lupus, as well as blood clots, landed in the hospital.
Other stars who've gone public with their lupus battles include Selena Gomez, Nick Canon and Seal.

The autoimmune disorder can develop later in life after being dormant for years, so <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/music/Lady-Gaga-532.celebrity">Lady Gaga</a> shared that she will have to take good care of herself to prevent it in the future.
  • After suffering from numerous seizures, Lil Wayne <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/music/lil-wayne-in-critical-condition-after-suffering-another-seizure-report-1740238.story">was hospitalized multiple times in 2013</a>. It wasn't immediately apparent what was causing the scary seizures, but Lil Wayne later opened up about his struggle with epilepsy, explaining that stress and lack of sleep can bring on his medical problems.
  • In 2011, Jennifer Esposito announced on the "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/tv/late-show-with-david-letterman/38749/season-22">Late Show with David Letterman</a>" that she suffers from celiac disease. The actress now shares her journey with fans, running a website and helping others who suffer adverse reactions after consuming gluten.
  • <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/Tom-Hanks-859.celebrity">Tom Hanks</a> also opened up on the "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/tv/late-show-with-david-letterman/38749/season-22">Late Show with David Letterman</a>" to voice his medical ailment in 2013. The actor came clean about his struggle with type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease. Tom shared that he'd been dealing with high blood sugar since he was 36, but that it was only recently that he'd become diabetic. Type 2 diabetes is manageable with diet and exercise, and in 2014, Tom was <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/tom-hanks-turned-his-life-around-after-diabetes-diagnosis-1807919.story">reported to be healthier than ever </a>after making lifestyle changes.
  • In 2009, Prince opened up about his struggle with epilepsy. In an interview with PBS, the eccentric entertainer discussed how he'd suffered from the disease as a child, and said it led to him being teased in school. Though it's unclear whether he continues to suffer from seizures, he credited the ailment with developing part of his persona. "Early in my career I tried to compensate by being as flashy as I could and as noisy as I could," he said on "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/tv/tavis-smiley/120205/main?icid=mfm_title&ct=sc">Tavis Smiley</a>."
  • We're not saying that <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/music/Nick-Jonas-1229.celebrity">Nick Jonas</a> didn't look H-O-T for the <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/music/2015-mtv-video-music-awards-red-carpet-32831.gallery">2015 MTV VMAs</a>, because he did. He would probably look good in almost anything, but that doesn't mean we had to like his matching leather jacket and pants. The Versace ensemble was a little too N'Sync circa 2000.
  • In the wake of husband Michael Douglas' battle with throat cancer, Catherine Zeta-Jones faced a health problem of her own. The actress was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder, which can develop at any age and last throughout one's lifetime. After the diagnosis, Catherine went to a rehab facility in 2011 to get help with a treatment plan. The stress of their health issues contributed to the A-list couple's <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/michael-douglas-and-catherine-zeta-jones-separate-26188.gallery">split in 2013</a>, but they worked things out and reunited in 2014.
  • In 2012, <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/Nick-Cannon-466.celebrity">Nick Cannon</a> faced some major health problems and was hospitalized with kidney failure early in the year. After receiving treatment for that ailment, he returned to the hospital weeks later with blood clots in his lungs. The star revealed that doctors discovered he was suffering from a Lupus-like autoimmune disease. Since the diagnosis, the star has worked to manage the disease, but had a setback when he was <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/tv/nick-cannon-admitted-to-hospital-tells-fans-not-to-worry-1879945.story">hospitalized in July 2015</a>. The "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/tv/americas-got-talent/161232/main">America's Got Talent</a>" host assured fans that he was fine and wrote on Instagram that the hospital stay was just a "temporary pit stop."
  • In 2011, <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/Amanda-Seyfried-934.celebrity">Amanda Seyfried</a> told British Glamour about a particularly troubling ailment that she had suffered from for years. Opening up about her struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, the actress revealed that she'd <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/seyfried-undergoing-therapy-for-panic-attacks-1645381.story">received therapy for the mental-health issue</a>. She has also been open about her use of anti-anxiety medications.
  • When Missy Elliott stepped out of the spotlight in the '00s, the rapper didn't tell fans the true reason. Missy was dealing with a medical ailment that caused dizzy spells, hair loss and mood swings. In 2008, doctors <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/entertainment/missy-elliot-graves-disease-hasnt-slowed-me-down-1626435.story">discovered that the rapper had Graves disease</a>, an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid. After undergoing radiation and taking medication, Missy got her health back under control. Today the star no longer needs medicine and is able to manage the disease with diet and exercise.
  • Diane Keaton suffers from asthma, an illness with numerous triggers. She even brought her real-life struggle to the big screen in the film "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/movie/the-lemon-sisters/1020504/main">The Lemon Sisters</a>," in which she played a character suffering from asthma.
  • Venus Williams suffers from Sjogren's syndrome, a debilitating autoimmune disease. In 2011, Venus went public with her diagnosis, which forced her to withdraw from the U.S. Open that year. Sjogren's syndrome sufferers develop symptoms that can include joint pain, dry mouth, digestive problems and fatigue. In the wake of the diagnosis, the tennis player incorporated a new exercise regime and switched to a vegan diet to help her better cope with the condition.
  • The same year her sister was diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome, <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/Serena-Williams-804.celebrity">Serena Williams</a> faced her own health problems. Serena was rushed to the hospital in 2011 with a pulmonary embolism -- a clot in her lung. After returning home to rest, Serena put out a statement to fans that read: "This has been extremely hard, scary, and disappointing. I am doing better. I'm at home now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control. I know I will be O.K., but am praying and hoping this will all be behind me soon."
  • Shannen Doherty suffers from the chronic inflammatory condition Crohn's disease. Those who have the autoimmune condition can suffer from persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, abdominal cramping and other digestive issues. Fortunately for Shannen, the disease can be managed with a strict diet and exercise. But in August 2015, Shannen revealed that she was also coping with a new medical issue: a <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/tv/shannen-doherty-reveals-in-court-documents-that-she-has-breast-cancer-1883591.story">breast cancer diagnosis</a>.

This decision allowed her to have peace of mind and know that she would never again have to battle breast cancer.

  • Glen Campbell went public with his devastating diagnosis in 2011: The music legend had been <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/music/glen-campbell-has-alzheimers-disease-1625812.story">diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease</a>. He continued to work for as long as he could and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 Grammy Awards. The singer stopped touring in 2013 after the disease had progressed too far for him to continue singing. In 2014, his fourth wife, Kim Campbell, chose to place him in a long-term care facility, explaining that doctors informed her it was in Glen's best interest. That decision that continues to be challenged by Glen's children, who believe their father should be battling the disease at home.
  • Montel Williams was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis back in 1999, but he hasn't let the debilitating disease slow him down. The former talk-show host is active in raising awareness about the disease, which attacks the myelin sheaths that surround and protect nerve cells. Montel also founded a company that is working to develop a treatment device for MS.
  • After a trip to Central America in 1997, Elisabeth Hasselbeck began suffering from cramps, indigestion and diarrhea. Elisabeth was wrongly diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and it wasn't until she filmed "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/tv/survivor-the-australian-outback/75579/main">Survivor: The Australian Outback</a>" in 2001 and lived on a very restricted diet that she figured out the real problem -- gluten. Elisabeth suffers from celiac disease, but has been able to live symptom-free after removing gluten from her diet.
  • <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/movies/Julianne-Moore-1047.celebrity">Julianne Moore</a> went on the "<a href="http://www.moviefone.com/tv/late-show-with-david-letterman/38749/season-22">Late Show with David Letterman</a>" and shared that she had developed carpal tunnel syndrome after texting friends and family too much. The excessive texting resulted in lingering pain in her fingers, wrist and hand. She shared that it got to the point where she couldn't shake someone's hand, so she consulted a doctor.
  • Sally Field discovered she had osteoporosis right before she turned 60, when she found out the bones in her hips and spine had started thinning. Despite being an active woman, Sally found herself in a dangerous position and opted to take the monthly medication Boniva, a drug that slows bone loss. She later became a spokesperson for the drug, which she credits with helping maintain her bone strength.
  • <a href="http://www.wonderwall.com/tv/Camille-Grammer-1358.celebrity">Camille Grammer</a> suffers from irritable bowel syndrome. Camille has worked to raise awareness of the condition, which can cause gas, cramping, bloating, diarrhea and constipation.
  • Barry Manilow's painful medical condition resulted in the performer needing surgery in 2011. The singer suffered from bursitis in his hips, a condition causing inflammation in sacs of synovial fluid in the muscles and tendons. Barry remained in great spirits throughout the ordeal, before the surgery saying, "That's what you get when you jump around to 'Copacabana' for 30 years!"
  • Neve Campbell was so distressed in her 20s that she developed Alopecia, a condition that results in patchy hair loss when the immune system mistakenly ends up attacking healthy hair follicles. For most, like Neve, the hair eventually grows back, and the condition is only temporary.
  • Kathleen Turner was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the '90s and underwent 12 surgeries in 12 years to help her cope with the condition. Despite being told she wouldn't walk again when originally diagnosed, the actress has persevered, continuing to work and fight against the debilitating disease.
