Despite huge outcry, minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu has reiterated that the federal government will go ahead with the proposed phone tax laws which seeks to tax all phone calls, text messages and data plans . This is because the government wants to improve the communications sector, he says. Premium Times quoted Shittu as telling the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Osogbo, Osun state, that the proposed tax will help to improve telecommunication infrastructure. As the government proceeds with its plans, the minister said there would be a workshop to sensitise the public on the new bill. “We are proposing a workshop on the bill for all stakeholders in telecommunication services, operators and even ordinary man.READ ALSO: Fast all in one — UC Browser“I hope that at the appropriate time, when the figures are out, everybody will appreciate the need for such a tax in which at the end of the day will improve services and make everybody happy. “Everybody is complaining every day over lack of quality and good services, drop calls and all of that. “All these are caused by deficiency in infrastructure and Nigerians, I believe that we cannot shy away from what will provide government with resources to improve facilities,” Shittu said. Meanwhile, Adebayo Shittu was one of those present when Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of popular social media platform, Facebook, returned to Nigeria to attend the Aso Villa Demo Day taking place today, September 2, in Abuja. The founder of Facebook was earlier in a closed door meeting with President Muhammmadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. His first visit to Nigeria began on Tuesday, August 30, with a visit the Co-creation Hub in Lagos and Angela a tech incubation company and continued on Wednesday, August 31, at the Town hall meeting where Mark shared his journey as an entrepreneur to developers and entrepreneurs.
